COL RODELLA

SELLA PASS-VALENTINI REF.-SALEI REF.-FRIEDRICH AUGUST REF.-DES ALPES REF.-COL RODELLA REF.

After having reached the Sella Pass (2244m), you can leave the car near the cableway of Sassolungo or in other spaces along the street; then take the transitable route some meters before the cableway that in a few minutes leads to the Refuge Valentini  (2218m). From here the path n°557, very large and flat, reaches in a very little time the Salei Refuge (2225m). Till this point the route is rather simple, but if you look to the top of the Col Rodella (2485m) you'll see what you still have to cope with. The way begins to climb up, even if it remains very wide, and through a steep sharp turn it reaches the Sella Rodella , where a brief descent conduces to the Refuge Friedrich August(2298m). After a little brak, come back till the path you've left to reach the refuge and take the path n°530 on the right, that climbs up with a strong but regular incline till the Refuge Des Alpes  (2392m). Now I advise you to get your breath back because the last part of the route is rather steep. Take the path on the left of the refuge and in around 15 minutes you'll reach the top of the Col Rodella where the Refuge Col Rodella  lies (2485m). From this point the landscape is wonderfull: south the high Fassa Valley till Vigo with the Latemar (2846m) on the background; west the Catinaccio (3004m) and the Denti di Terrarossa (2653m), north the Sassolungo (3111m) and east the Sella Groupe with the Piz Boè (3152m) and the Marmolada (3342m).
