Gran festa da d'istą
The "Gran Festa da d'Istą" (Great Summer Festival) is maybe the most important ladin celebration of Fassa Valley, and no only. It takes place generally the last week end of august or the first of september, since 1979.
The "center" of the festival is an immense tent built in the parking of the cableway of Canazei, containing more than 3000 people. From Thursday to Sunday it is possible to eat local cooking, thanks to the cooperation of many voluntary workers that permit the realization of the festival; and after the dinner untill one hour in the night you can listen to music with the numerous groups coming from everywhere in the Alps.
The most important moment of the festival is the parade of Sunday afternoon that, in 2004, on the occasion of the 25° anniversary of the festival, saw the participation of more than 50 folk groups from Ladinia, Südtirol, Friuli and Switzerland, and more than 15 music bands. This is the occasion to admire the wonderful ladin dresses from the five valleys, weared by man and women of every age.
