FORCELLA PORDOI |
|
The Forcella Pordoi has always been one of the
most popular freeride tours in Fassa Valley maybe because also not so expert
riders can cope with its track. It consists in t
he
discent from the Sass Pordoi (2950m) until Pordoi Pass (2239m); the difference
in height is almost 700 meters, but from the technical point of view the track
doesn't shows any difficulty. The starting point is the Refuge Maria Sass Pordoi
(2950m), near the station of the cableway; from here in a few minutes you'll
reach the Refuge Forcella Pordoi (2829m), where the real descent begins. The
gully you have to go through is rather wide and the incline is never over 30°;
the track becomes larger and larger as you go down until the western side of the
Monte Forcia (2356m), on the wide grasses just over the Pass. As the track faces
south, during the morning you can find the best condition of the snow; just in
the afternoon it could get worse in case of high temperatures. Due to the
popularty of the Forcella Pordoi, a lot of riders usually go down to Pordoi
Pass: in the second part of the morning the track could be similar to a
classical slope with hard and pressed snow. The avalanche danger is usually not
so high, especially because of the soft incline of the slope; in case of alarm
on the snow reports, the operators of the cableway do not allow the riders to go
up with the skis.
