Luis Trenker was born the 4th October 1892 in Ortisei, in Gardena Valley; during his life he was architect, climber, actor and film maker, so that he became popular all around the world. The military experience of the first World War brought him to write some books, but then he dedicate to film making. His first film "The mountain calls", dates 1928; in his movies Trenker deals with the theme of the connection between individual and the fatherland and the decade of modern cities with their inhabitants. Persecuted by the nazis, Trenker moved to Rome in the 40es, where he still realizes some documentaries, while after the war he begins a serie travels between Bolzano and München. In 1965 he realizes a movie about his homeland, the Südtirol, writing at the same time some mountain tales. Luis trenker died in Bolzano in 1990, at the age of 97.
This year the Museum Ladin de Gherdëina has dedicated to the great film maker a very precise and carefully made exposition.
