Valentino Rovisi

When we talk about arts in Fassa Valley we always think about Valentino Rovisi, a great painter of the 18th century, apprentice of the popular Tiepolo. Valentino Rovisi was born in 1715 in Moena; after the primary training in Moena he was sent at the age of 12 to venice, where he lived some years, and came back in 1743 to work in Tiepolo's workshop. After having work together with his master in the realization of some paintings, Rovisi came back to Moena in 1750, where his name was almost unknown. He worked in a lot of churches of Trentino (Fassa Valley, Fiemme Valley, Cembra valley and Valsugana), of Sudtirol (Chiusa and Pietralba) and of Veneto (Agordino and the zone of Belluno). In Fassa Valley the best work of Rovisi is the fresco in the Carmine's chapel in the church of S. Vigilio in Moena. During the last years of his life, Rovisi was hit by a terrible desaese, that brought him to death in March 1783.
