Connection Gran Risa

The Gran Risa is the most important ski slope of Badia Valley, especially thanks to the popular World Championship race that takes place here evry year. The steep track that from the Piz La Ila reaches the nice village of La Villa can be reached easily through a connection from the Sellaronda; this tour is recommanded not only to expert skiers: the Gran Risa has got also the red alternative, the Alting, that in my opinion is one of the most exciting slopes of the Dolomites. The starting point is Corvara, in Badia Valley.

Near the valley station of the cableway Boč, in Corvara, take the connection chairlift Costes de l'Ega, a very old and slow lift, that leads to in the upper part of the village, on the street to Campolongo PAss; a flat path leads you now to the station of the modern cableway Col Alt. In case of queue by the chairlift Costes de l'Ega it is recommandable to cross the center of Corvara by walking, until the cableway Col Alt. When you'll reach the top, after a brief steep slope on the right, you'll reach the next lift.

Through this chairlift you'll cross the soft slopes of the skiarea, in the middle of awonderful landscape. At the end, follow the signs to La Villa: after having crossed the track of the chairlift, an easy path becomes smaller and smaller, until you'll reach the next lift.

Through this chair lift you'll reach the top of the Piz La Ila, the starting point of the Gran Risa and the Alting. The firsst stretch is the same for both the slopes: a small path that reaches the main slope of the Gran Risa. To take it, turn left and you'll be in the middle of the steep slope that, always with the same sharp incline, descends the northern side of the Piz La Ila with a soft curve on the left. At the end a new lift permits you to reach the cableway. The slope is rather brief but very very steep; the snow conditions are often good, in spite of the high number of skiers taht you'll find here all over the season. To take the Alting, you have to cross the first slope of the Gran Risa (pay attention!), going straight on: the track is wonderful, always very large, and the snow conditons are alway very good; brief steep slopes alternates to stretches with a softer incline; the discent is very nice but absolutely not banal; the track is not so crowded. A negative element is the fact that the Alting lies in a shady position. A the end of the slope a brief chairlift leads you to the starting point of the cableway.

Through the yellow cableway of the Piz La Ila you'll come back to the starting point of the slope; this time follow the signs to Corvara, giong down the hill in direction south; an easy slope and a brief chairlift lead you to the top of another hill. From here a red slope on the right permits you to come back to Corvara.
