Mazzin is the smallest village of the Fassa Valley; it is situated in that area who separates the "middle-valley" from the "high valley". In this little village, there is a wonderful landscape on the mountains of theMazzin Mazzin "Higher Valley" (Sella, Pordoi) and also on the group of the Catinaccio, who dominates Mazzin and can be reached from the village through the rough Udai Valley. Mazzin doesn't offers a lot of services, even if some of them can be found in the two most important hamlets, Fontanazzo and Campestrin. The total lack of cableways or other lifts is a very negative factor of this village; however, both in Mazzin and in the hamlets begin a lot of paths who lead on the Catinaccio or in the Crepa Valley. The little church has been dedicated to St. Mary Magdalena, and only from 1953 it is a parish curch. An interesting thing is that the hamlets are part of Campitello’s parish, whereas only the village of Mazzin forms the correspondent parish. Campestrin and Fontanazzo are just an administrative part of Mazzin.

HAMLETS

CAMPESTRIN  (Ciampesrtin)

1373mt

Mazzin MazzinIt is less than one kilometre from Mazzin and it’s a little characteristic centre. The landscape has been completely destroyed by a group of houses in plain cement, as if it were the centre of Milan. There is a little wonderful church in the centre of the village. It’s been built in 1825, and inside it cherishes some really fantastic paintings, such as the representation of the SS. Trinity. From Campestrin there is a little path which arrives in the Done Valley and so in the group of the Catinaccio.

FONTANAZZO (Fontanac)

1395mt Mazzin Mazzin

It’s situated at one kilometre in the North of Mazzin, directly connected with Campitello. There is the town hall, being Fontanazzo the biggest hamlet. It offers a wonderful view over the west high valley. From here another path starts for the Dona valley, and which arrives in the group of the Catinaccio. The little church, dedicated to S. Mary of the Carmine, has been built in 1643.
