NICKNAME OF THE
INHABITANTS:
"Porcģe", that is "pigs", because of the prosperity
that caracterised Moena in the past: the pig was in fact the tipical
meal for reach people.
Moena is the biggest village of Fassa
Valley and lies on the boundary with Fiemme Valley, to which Moena
belonged in the past centuries. It's rather chaotic due to the road traffic,
that often causes big
jams. The central square with ist shops is very nice. Some years ago, a huge
cement theater was built in the southern part of Moena and destroyed
the wanderful alpin landscape of the village; the theater, called Navalge,
today is still unfinished. In Moena you can find: bank, post office,
doctor, chemist, swimming pool, tennis court, cycle path and children ground.
Moena decided a some years ago to build a new skiarea (Skiarea
Trevalli), indipendent from the rest of Fassa Valley, together with Falcade,
a little village on the eastern side of S. Pellegrino Pass. Moena's
uphill lifts lie in Ronchi (Lusia Lifts) and on S. Pellegrino Pass.
