Karl Unterkircher

Karl Unterkircher was born in Selva di Val Gardena August the 27th 1970. In the youth he became alpin guide, belonging to the group of the catores. His passions were the climbing and the extreme ski: in the first case, very popular are his ascents on Sella and the Sassolungo (Innerkofler Tower and 1° Sassopiatto Tower), the many routes on the Marmolada and on ather famous peaks of the zone (Civetta, Tofane) and abroad (Aconcagua in Argentina and Mera Peak in Tibet); in the field of the extreme ski he made himself popular thanks to the West Wall of the Weisshorn, the North Wall of the Similaun, the Comici Gully on the Sorapiss and various gullies in the Sella Group.

In spite of this excellent curriculum, the enterprise that made him very popular dates to 2004: the climb of Everest without oxygen through the road Colle Nord, May the 24th 2004 and the conquere of K2 without oxygen through the "sprone Abruzzi", July the 26th, on the occasion of the expedition "K2 2004", organised to remember the 50th anniversary of the first climb on K2 by Lino Lacedelli, Achille Compagnoni and Ardito Desio.
